Initial consultation

In May 2016 a consultation event was held focused on Axbridge Town Hall and the Town Council stall in the farmers’ market. The event gave us an opportunity to discuss the development of the Neighbourhood Plan and the issues that people feel are important for Axbridge.

As well as the general discussions, people were asked to identify what they liked about Axbridge and what they would like to change. Many people filled in a pro forma that gave the two questions; others used yellow post it notes and boards provided for the answers.

The answers were categorised into the broad groups given below. Many respondents raised more than one issue; each issue has been counted as a separate response.

  • Community spirit
  • Transport and parking (specific mention of either)
  • Built/natural environment (including countryside, the Square and architecture)
  • Facilities (including shops, pubs, the Roxy etc)
  • Housing
  • Health, wellbeing & education
  • Energy
  • Business & employment
  • Other (including non-responses)

The raw data for both “Like” and “Change” are included so you can have see how the responses have been categorised. We are aware that there will be differences of opinion about which response belongs where, but hope that we have provided a reasonably accurate overall picture in the summaries.

We are also aware that the respondents were not all from Axbridge nor were they a representative sample of local people - many were shoppers at the farmers’ market and did not come specifically to take part. Even so, about 250 people submitted their ideas on many, if not all, of the issues we are facing.
